On His Heart, In His Hand

"Aaron shall carry the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment over his heart when he enters the holy place, for a memorial before the Lord continually."  (Exodus 28:29)

Typically, my yearly trips through the book of Exodus are really exciting for the first 20 chapters and then pretty dry for the last 20.  Praise God, this year has been different and God has granted a very exciting trip through the details of the vestments for Aaron and the makings of the tabernacle.  God opened my mind to see so many beautiful pictures of Christ.  The Lord really spoke to me and moved my spirit with the picture in the 29th verse of chapter 28, when Aaron was described as wearing a breastpiece of judgement over his heart when entering the holy place.  Wow!  Is that not a beautiful picture of Christ, who is at the right hand of the Father in heaven, minute by minute making supplication on behalf of His people?  All who are Christ's are on His heart and He is  praying to the Father on their behalf!  "Who is the one who condemns?  Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us."  (Romans 8:34)

Aaron, in the perpetual priesthood of Levi's tribe (Ex. 40:15), wearing his turban with the inscription "Holy to the Lord" (Ex. 39:30) and a breastpiece over his heart with the names of Israel's sons as he entered the holy of holies, is a glorious representation of Christ, in His eternal priesthood (Heb. 6:20), in His perfect holiness, carrying the names of His elect on His heart then in earthly ministry, arrest, torture, death, and resurrection, and now in supplication & intercession on their behalf at the right hand of God.  "Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them."  (Hebrews 7:25)

As a Christian who struggles daily against the wickedness of my flesh, how could I live without the security and peace that come from knowing that my Jesus is praying for me, lifting me up to the Father? In the knowledge that I am on His heart and that no one can snatch me from His mighty hand, rest and hope are found, and perseverance is possible.  Thank God that Jesus has His people on His heart and in His hand!
