Trick or Treat? (Addendum re: Reformation Day Celebrations)

Note:  My commentary about the 'replacement' idea does not apply to those celebrating "Reformation Day".  The day that Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the door was actually on October 31st.  A celebration of this day would not be considered the 'replacement' to which I referred in the Trick or Treat? blog.

I have attended Fall Festivals at various churches where it was obvious that the intent was to 'replace' Halloween because all the children were dressed in worldy costumes and they were all saying "trick-or-treat" as they went to booths set up around the room with games and candy.  There was no obvious difference between what was going inside the church building and what was going on in the streets of every neighborhood in America.  There was absolutely no Scripture, prayer, or anything godly about the events at any of these churches.  I actually attended one before God convincted me on this very issue and my own son was wearing a worldly costume.  Praise God that He opened my eyes to my motives and cleansed my heart on this issue.

Our church will be celebrating Reformation Day this October 31st.  I praise God for the discernment and conviction He has brought to several of the families in our church family.  I praise God that Halloween will not be 'replaced' at Cane Run Baptist in 2007, but the boldness and obedience of Martin Luther, who was empowered and led by the Holy Spirit of God, will be celebrated.  The glory of the God of the Bible will be made manifest in the hearts and minds of all celebrating, Lord willing.

May God be magnified as we speak His truth!  May we have the wisdom to discern truth from error in all things.  Yes, praise the King of Kings who is thrice holy!
