"Fringe" benefits

"He stretches out the north over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.  He wraps up the waters in His clouds, and the cloud does not burst under them.  He obscures the face of the full moon and spreads His cloud over it.  He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters at the boundary of  light and darkness.  The pillars of heaven tremble and are amazed at His rebuke.  He quieted the sea with His power, and by His understanding He shattered Rahab.  By His breath the heavens are cleared;  His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.  Behold, these are the fringes of His ways;  and how faint a word we hear of Him!  But His mighty thunder, who can understand?"  (Job 26:7-14)

Wow!  What kind of God do we serve?  In the words of Elder Ward at Main Street Baptist in Lexington, KY, "What a God!  What a God!  What a God!"   Job describes the works of the Lord in such a way that we stand in awe of God's endless power and majesty.  The earth seems so huge to us yet God hangs it on nothing!  The oceans to us are overwhelmingly beautiful while dangerous and even deadly, yet they are at the command of our God who draws their boundaries with His finger!

"The heavens are telling of the glory of God;  and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands."  (Psalm 19:1)  "In whirlwind and storm is His way, and clouds are the dust beneath His feet.  He rebukes the sea and makes it dry..."  (Nahum 1:3b-4a)

The works of God visible to us, my friend,  they are the mere "fringes of His ways"!  We are so small and powerless in comparison to our God that even the fringes of His ways are unfathomable to us.

"For I know that the Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods.  Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps."  (Psalm 135:6)

"But He is unique and who can turn Him?  And what His soul desires, that He does."  (Job 23:13)

In this limited mind I am unable to fully comprehend God's power and control over all things.  I am thankful that I may benefit from seeing even the fringes of His ways.  Thank You God for opening my eyes to see the mere fringes of Your glory, Your power, Your majesty, beauty, perfection, wisdom, knowledge, and sovereignty.  Thank You for Your Word which trains my eyes to see You.  Lord, I long to see more of Your glory so please open my eyes more each day as You grow me in the grace and knowledge of Your Son.  Thank You for making Yourself known to me and for giving me eyes to see the fringes of Your ways, that You may bring glory to Yourself through moving me to praise, adoration, and thanksgiving.
