Love for my husband on our first anniversary.

He stood with a cute little smirk on his face as I opened the gift he had given me.
My eyes opened wide and I leapt to my feet as I smelled the new leather...and stared at the cover...
The name that was there on this treasured gift...were my eyes clear--did I see it rightly?
There it was, "Colleene Barnett" in fresh golden print, shining brightly!

Slyly he said, "Did they make a mistake?"
"I told them your name and explained how to spell it."
"Maybe something we do will completely correct it."

His smirk turned to smile and then turned to serious.
God was preparing to make one out of two of us.
I closed my eyes and sat out of faintness.
My knees were weak and my stomach was nauseous.

This man I had loved for what seemed like so long
was down on one knee--this was the dawn
of a new life---one of a little Barnett.
The time was coming but it wasn't here yet.

Out from his pocket came a small white box.
Inside was such beauty, my heart seemed to stop--
then it swelled as I heard the four little words
that would forever change my life!
"Will you marry me?", he said in his strong sure voice,
"Will you be my wife?"

I was scared and excited, amazed and anxious, humbled and full of praise!
Could I really be the woman he'd chosen to spend with him the rest of his days?

'Together at last' was the thought that I had
as our souls were betrothed before God.
"Yes!" was my answer with no second thought.
He put on me the diamond he'd lovingly bought.

It was beautiful, just like the love that we shared---
suspended in space by pure gold.
It brought to my mind the way a believer---
is protected by God's mighty hold.

Thus we were engaged on the thirtieth of March
at 9:30 in the evening.
Our wedding was complete with a pre-ception and preaching,
white leather and a Harley Road King.

Days and weeks---even a year has passed
since the time we first said our vows.
I thank my God for the gift of this man
and my love for him grows even now.

I love you Dave Barnett!
      You so rock!
 Happy Anniversary!
